The round-the-world voyage of the Amerigo Vespucci, the world's most beautiful ship, has begun

31 ports, 29 countries and 5 continents crossing 3 oceans. This is the itinerary of the voyage around the world that the Amerigo Vespucci will make over the next 20 months. Set sail from the port of Genoa on 1 July 2023, the training ship will serve as field training for a whole new batch of Italian Navy officers.

The Amerigo Vespucci will be the ambassador of 'Made in Italy' in the world, with its crew of a total of 217 members, including 126 trainees including a Ukrainian trainee.

These are the words of Enrico Credendino, Chief of Naval Staff: "As of today, the Vespucci joins the 11 Navy ships already operating outside the Mediterranean, a record. She will sail under the Unesco banner and during this campaign one of the highlights will be the symbol of Oceans Day in 2024 when she will stop in Mexico".

On the most important stops of the School Ship's voyage, 'Italy villages' will be built to present the products of Italy. On board, for the first time, the ship will also host instruments and researchers from the University of Genoa with a project created in tandem with the Hydrographic Institute of the Navy and the Italian Navy to promote Italian cuisine as a Unesco intangible heritage.

The launch of the Amerigo Vespucci took place on 22 February 1931 at the Royal Shipyard in Castellamare di Stabia. She was renamed the 'most beautiful ship in the world', according to the story told, by the American aircraft carrier USS Independence, which, seeing her in the middle of the Mediterranean, asked for identification, a common occurrence in the middle of the sea. To the Italian school ship's reply, again by means of light messages, the Americans gave her the nickname 'most beautiful ship in the world'.
