Two dream islands to visit in Ireland, featured in Colin Farrell's latest film

The movie "The Banshees of Inisherin", 9 Oscar 2023 nominations, was filmed in Ireland, in various little-known locations that are worth visiting, even if only in this photo gallery.

The film with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason tells of the Civil War in Ireland in 1923 and is set on two beautiful islands, Achill Island and Inis Mór.

The islands are located along Wild Atlantic Way. They are places where nature is wild and where you can breathe the true Irish spirit. They are easily reached by landing at the airport at Knock.

Achill Island is located in the territory of the westernmost part of Ireland. It is easily accessible from the mainland via a small drawbridge. There you can see the highest cliffs in Ireland and an extraordinary wilderness.

The cliffs of Inishmore
Inishmore or, in Gaelic, Inis Mór (12 kilometers long and less than 4 kilometers wide) is the largest of the three islands Aran, born from a limestone platform that broke away from the coast of County Galway. It is known for its traditional culture, distinctive landscape and kilometer-long network of dry stone walls, which can often be seen in the film.

In the warmer months, the ideal means of transportation is a bicycle (electric bikes can also be rented). But you can also opt for characteristic gigs or-if you're in the mood-even comfortable walking shoes!

The places on the island that are worth a stop, of course, are many, but given its small size, the best way to discover them is to be guided a little by what catches your eye. The reason Achill Island and Inis Mór were chosen as locations for the film, as the director and screenwriter Martin McDonagh commented, is their ability to capture the beauty of the island.

Keem Beach, Achill Island
Traveling along this stretch of coastline, one comes to another beautiful location: Keem Bay, one of Ireland's most famous beaches. It is also the best place for open water swimming. Make a stop, either on the way there or on the way back, at Gielty's Clew Bay, self-proclaimed the most westerly pub in Europe, for a beer or a coffee while watching the spectacle of the bay.

The green Inishmore
On a tour from east to west, one encounters the area of the charming little bay called by locals Rabbit Beach. It is located at the end of the island road, not far from Eararna. It serves as the backdrop for a dialogue between the protagonists. Not far away is another place immortalized by filming: it is the exterior of the cemetery at Killeany, with Celtic crosses and the ruins of Saint Enda’s Monastery, whose origins seem to date back to the 9th century.
