Where is Giuseppe Verdi's tomb in Italy and how to visit it

Perhaps not everyone knows that the tomb of the great Italian composer is Giuseppe Verdi located inside the retirement home for musicians that he himself had founded and had built, concluding the work shortly before his death in January 1901.

The retirement home for musicians, managed by the Verdi Foundation, is located in Piazza Buonarroti 29 in Milan and welcomes as guests both elderly musicians who need a place to live, and young music students who need accommodation during their studies.

Inside the structure, in the garden, you can access the mausoleum where Giuseppe Verdi and his wife, the soprano Giuseppina Strepponi, are buried.

How to book a visit to the crypt of Giuseppe Verdi
Inside the structure, through the garden, you can access the crypt whereGiuseppe Verdi and his wife, the soprano Giuseppina Strepponi, are buried . Group visits to the crypt and museum space have been reopened after the pandemic and to book it is necessary to write an email to info@casaverdi.it (reservation for the crypt is necessary for groups of more than 5 people). The place can be visited from 8.30 to 18.00.

The role of Teresa Stolz
While waiting for the crypt to be completed, Giuseppe Verdi and his wife Giuseppina Strepponi were buried at the Monumental Cemetery in Milan. The crypt was then completed by Teresa Stolz, a soprano friend of Giuseppe Verdi, who spent the last period of Verdi 's life next to him.

The museum rooms
Inside the retirement home for musicians, in addition to the crypt, there is also a museum dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi. Works of art, objects, musical instruments... all can be visited free of charge (but an offer is appreciated). The museum can only be visited in groups and only by reservation.
