Eight Italian beaches considered among the most beautiful and cleanest

The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) awarded 16 new 'Blue Flags' to Italy last week. The international sustainability education NGO, based in Denmark and present in 81 countries, awarded 16 new 'flags' to the Italian peninsula. A total of 226 Italian municipalities and 458 beaches and 84 tourist harbours represent 11% of the world's award-winning beaches.

As the official website reports, 'Blue Flag' is a voluntary eco-label awarded to seaside resorts that comply with criteria relating to sustainable land management. The main objective of this programme is to steer the local management policy of many seaside resorts towards a process of environmental sustainability.

Italy itself can boast an incredible heritage, just look at how many awards it manages to obtain each year for the beauty and hospitality of its territory.
